Accelerate | Future Directors of Nursing


Healthscope’s Accelerate – Future DONs program provides nursing managers with insights, skills and capabilities that are essential for being a successful senior nursing leader at Healthscope. Participants will experience an accelerated development journey over a 10-month period.

Applications for the 2024 program open on Tuesday 30 January and close Monday 19 February. 

Overview

In this blended program, participants will learn through a mix of facilitator-led sessions, assessment tools, peer discussions and practical application. We will cover topics, such as:

Inspiring Excellence Operational Decision Making
Stakeholder engagement  Coaching for High Performance
Influencing others Leading Change
Operational Execution Financial and business acumen

 

This program has been designed to be an intensive development experience with support and learning opportunities across multiple avenues. Your program will include the following:

  • Assessment to increase self-awareness and to receive good quality feedback on strengths and development areas (pre and post program)
  • An individual development plan tailored to your needs and motivations
  • Four face-to-face days of world-class development, designed and tailored for future senior nursing leaders at Healthscope
  • Short pre and post work activities to practice the learnings from the formal days of development back in the workplace
  • Facilitated small peer group catch-ups to support you during your development program and where you can share ideas and experiences with others
  • Guest speakers from across the business
  • The potential for acting opportunities within and outside of your site
  • A group project with a senior project sponsor providing you with guidance
  • Regular catch-up with your manager
  • A dedicated support person from the Organisational Development team


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Target audience

This program has been designed to support nursing managers who aspire to be senior nursing leaders. 

Examples of “nursing manager” roles who can apply to be on the program:

  • Nurse Unit Managers
  • Hospital Coordinators/After Hours Managers
  • Nursing Educators/Quality Managers/
  • Infection Control Managers (with nursing backgrounds)

Examples of senior nursing leaders roles:

  • Directors of Nursing
  • Deputy Directors of Nursing / Associate Directors of Nursing
  • Peri-Operative Service Managers

Timing and location 

Applicants will receive confirmation on the outcome of their application by mid-April 2024, with the program scheduled to start early May. The formal days of development will run face-to-face in Melbourne with some program elements run virtually (e.g. your small peer group meetups), and some self-directed (e.g. project). Travel expenses such as flights, accommodation and taxis/ride shares for interstate participants will be covered by Healthscope. 

Entry requirements

In order to apply for the program, you must meet the below criteria:

  • You have career aspirations to move into a senior nursing leadership role with continued development, support and experience
  • You are willing and able to fulfil all program requirements across a 10-month period and are committing to 100% attendance to the formal aspects of the program (face-to-face formal development days and virtual catch-ups)
  • You have been at Healthscope for minimum of 6 months
  • You are a registered nurse and are in a nursing management role (see examples above)
  • You role model the Healthscope Safe Values
  • You are self-directed and look for opportunities to learn, seek/use feedback and learn from mistakes, and demonstrate a strong willingness to stretch and grow
  • You have an active Performance and Development Plan that targets ongoing leadership development
